  INTRODUCTION

 The Agency for the prohibition of the trafficking in persons and other Related matters (NAPTIP) came into being on the 26^th of August 2003. The creation of the agency is the response of the Nigerian government to addressing the scourge of human trafficking, child Abuse, cultism, prostitution, child labour and other related societal ills in Nigeria.

THE NYSC CDS PROGRAMME

 “The community Development Service of the NYSC is as old as the scheme itself, and over the years has being reviewed to meet the dynamic challenges of the service. The vision of the CDS is to galvanize the great potential of the Nigerian Youth, as well as generate community interest towards national development .It’s mission is to enhance the living standards of its host community”

NAPTIP CDS GROUP UMUAHIA SOUTH L.G.A ABIA STATE

In the above light,Naptip CDS Group Umuahia South L.G.A Abia State; one of the many CDS’S in the Local Government (Apumiri-Ubakala) Was introduced by our able mother, in the person of Mrs Nwokolo P.N. (Local Government Inspector, Umuahia South) on the 23^rd of March 2008. Five Corps members were drawn from the various CDS groups to form Naptip CDS Group. The group has grown over the years and is waxing stronger and stronger. According to Article three of its constitution (Aims and Objectives) Naptip CDS Group is poised with the responsibility to render selfless service by raising awareness against human trafficking viz: (a) prostitution (b) child labour (c) child abuse and other related matters. This can be done through the education and enlightenment of young school children, parents and the general public on the causes, dangers and consequences of human trafficking and how to detect it and involve the security operatives, the National/Regional body of NAPTIP ; as quick as possible for prompt intervention. And also to collaborate with relevant agencies, like the Nigerian Immigration service , the Nigerian Police, SSS, Civil Defence Corps etc. In the area of information gathering , sharing (tip offs) etc. In a bid to ride our society of the ugly menace of human trafficking, child abuse, cultism, prostitution, child labour and other related social vices in the community.
